Our tutorials go through a rigorous process that includes the following steps:
- Editorial. Throughout the content development process, PEI’s Medical Advisory Board works in conjunction with our staff of writers, editors, instructional designers, narrators and graphic artists. Contact us for more information about contributing to X-Plain.
- Metadata and coding. After final approval of the content, the metadata team codes the health topic with more than 200 metadata elements. These include standard medical terminology, coding, and taxonomies designed to simplify and automate the selection of the topics by end-users.
- Development. The multimedia team develops each topic in six different instructional formats. Additionally, the programming team converts the programs for use on various platforms. X-Plain’s materials can be accessed through a variety of devices, including tablets, smartphones, computers, and kiosks. Finally, the customer service team uploads all X-Plain items on PEI’s servers. This allows for brand-detailing, automatic updates, and data collection for clients who want documentation services.
- Translation. We develop all health topics in English and then translate them into Spanish, Arabic, and other languages as requested. In addition to translating the medical writing, we modify the illustrations, animations, and narration to fit the norms of local cultures.
The translated version of each title goes through the same quality development process as its English counterpart. The writers work with medical specialists who are fluent in the translated language. PEI’s Medical Advisory Board includes a Director of Spanish and a Director of Arabic, as well as medical practitioners and full-time staff who are fluent in Spanish and Arabic. - Updates. The Medical Advisory Board annually reviews the content of X-Plain and provides updates in accordance with contemporary medical and educational best practices. Our team of medical editors assists the board in monitoring the latest medical research and trends in healthcare. Feedback from our clients is also analyzed and communicated to the MAB reviewer(s) during the update process.
