The X-Plain Health Encyclopedia includes our full library for all medical specialties. The Encyclopedia provides interactive tutorials, overviews, full text and illustrated handouts for health websites and patient portals. For clients that want selected topics, we provide the content they need for their websites. They can also choose the desired educational formats (tutorials, videos, text) and languages. X-Plain for EMR (Electronic Medical Records)
X-Plain's full library of textual materials and discharge instructions are integrated into the EMR system to provide patient-specific information during an inpatient, outpatient, or emergency room visit. X-Plain automatically suggests health topics to the healthcare provider based on diagnostic coding, keywords, gender, age group, and other metadata. The provider may then print, email, or ‘push’ the heath topic to the patient portal or bedside station – based on the functions of the EMR. X-Plain for Patient Portals
Once logged into the patient portal, patients can see health topics based on their diagnostic coding and keywords. Patients can also search the Health Encyclopedia. When a patient selects an X-Plain topic, the patient can then choose his or her preferred educational format (tutorial, video, or illustrated text). Patients can view X-Plain through their patient portal on PCs/laptops, tablets, or smartphones. Contact us for more information. |

X-Plain for Tablets
X-Plain for tablets is a convenient way to offer X-Plain tutorials to patients and their families. We support iPad and Android tablets.
Our clients rely on tablets to deliver patient education in a variety of clinical settings: at the hospital bedside, in the examination room or waiting area, or at in-home care visits.

This tablet solution is ideal for outreach clinics, rural areas, and for home healthcare visits because the tutorials are accessible without Internet access. Clients can receive content updates when the tablet is in a Wi-Fi zone.
If you have an Android or iPad tablet, you can download a demo library of ten X-Plain topics for free as a demo (see the apps buttons below). For assistance – or to select your own titles – contact us and we will give you a code to download your chosen topics. Search for X-Plain in the App Store and from Google Play to download the app with demo topics. |

X-Plain for Hospital Bedside
We provide more than 2,500 X-Plain videos in English, Spanish, and Arabic to be delivered through hospital bedside patient stations. This X-Plain solution supports smart TVs, tablets, and CCTV. Depending on the features that the bedside vendor offers, diagnostic and procedural coding can trigger patient-specific health topics so they display on a smart TV next to the patient’s bed. PEI can deliver the videos in a variety of formats. Bedside systems that support interactivity can document completion and comprehension through X-Plain tutorials. Contact us for more information. |

X-Plain XML Databases
X-Plain libraries are available in XML formats to integrate with health websites or health IT systems. Our standard XML database allows you to format our textual X-Plain materials any way you want on your website or IT system. The XML database includes extensive metadata on each health topic and groups the information into 7 to 10 independent sections (e.g. causes, symptoms, treatment options, etc.). We sell X-Plain as an annual or monthly subscription. In addition to licensing our patient education content and delivery-management software, the Patient Education Institute provides each client with the following services as part of the subscription:
Customization Services
We provide optional customization services that let our clients edit the medical content of selected X-Plain topics to fit their local practices. This additional service is not part of the subscription to X-Plain. It is offered based on a multimedia customization fee.
We offer additional services for a fee to allow clients to develop multimedia programs based on the content they provide to us. We also develop custom programming applications based on client specifications (e.g. apps for tablets, smartphones, and webservices). We have extensive experience developing interactive multimedia programs for informed consent in clinical trials.
Translation Services
We offer X-Plain in English, Spanish, and Arabic. When we translate a health topic, we publish it in all six educational formats for that language. When we update a health topic, we always update the English version first. Then we update all six educational formats in English, Spanish, and Arabic.
We do translate X-Plain content into other languages by request. We have translated selected X-Plain topics and tutorials on demand into French, Portuguese, Turkish, Luganda, Urdu, and Mandarin Chinese.
